Croft Reserve Ruby Porto 750ml

Croft is a Port house connected to the Fladgate Partnership group. Alongside this Reserve Ruby, it makes a separate reserve bottling called Distinction, and the label uses the Portuguese word Porto.

Reserve Ruby is blended from red Ports grown in the Baixo Corgo and Cima Corgo, picked for depth of color, intense fruit and a firm palate. The blend is aged about three years in oak vats before bottling, a step up from a basic Ruby.

Croft describes a rich blackcurrant bouquet with subtle cedar and spice, then black and woodland fruit with chocolate on the palate, with good weight and structure.

Against Fonseca Bin 27, Croft Reserve Ruby leans toward blackcurrant, cedar and chocolate; for a Ruby with a spicy, cedary edge, choose Croft.

Croft suggests serving it at 16 to 18°C, just below room temperature. It needs no decanting, and the bottle should be stored upright. Pour it with dark chocolate, blue cheese or a cheese board after dinner, or alongside a slice of chocolate cake.
