Geoffroy Expression Premier Cru Brut Champagne 750ml

Geoffroy is a family of growers rooted in Cumières since the 17th century. Jean-Baptiste Geoffroy, the fifth generation, farms about 14 hectares, mostly Premier Cru, and the house is now based in Aÿ.

Expression is the house's entry cuvée: 40% Pinot Noir, 35% Meunier and 25% Chardonnay from Cumières and Hautvillers. Half of each blend is the base vintage and half comes from a perpetual reserve started in the 1970s. Plots are made separately with native yeasts, the reserve ages in oak and concrete, and the wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered after 30 to 36 months on the lees. The dosage is low, about 3 grams per liter.

The house describes stewed apple and a hint of vanilla, then a fine, fruity palate with a fresh finish.

Against a big-house Brut like Pol Roger Brut Réserve, Geoffroy is drier and more grower in style; for depth at the price, choose Geoffroy.

The house suggests it as an aperitif, with seafood pastries or braised sweetbreads.
