Moët Impérial, the Brut Impérial, was created in 1869 and is still the house's flagship. Moët & Chandon itself dates to 1743 in Épernay and is part of LVMH, with Benoît Gouez as cellar master.
The blend is built from more than 100 wines across roughly 280 crus, split fairly evenly between Pinot Noir and Meunier with 20 to 30% Chardonnay. Reserve wines make up 20 to 30%, and the house has lowered the dosage to 7 grams per liter, so the finish reads drier than it once did.
Moët describes green apple, citrus, white flowers and brioche on the nose, then pear, peach and apple with a soft citrus lift.
If you like the house but want more fruit, try the Rosé Impérial; for a toast where the name matters, Impérial is the bottle.
We carry it in 187ml minis, half bottles, 750ml and magnums, so it covers everything from a gift basket to a wedding table.
Pour it well chilled. See all our Moët & Chandon Champagne and the rest of our Champagne. Pick it up at our Brooklyn store or get same-day delivery across NYC.
